• Persons having custody of a child under a Kansas decree are required to give other persons with custodial rights 30 days notice in writing before changing the child's residence location, or removing the child from Kansas for more than 90 days
  
• In re Marriage of Ronen, 26 P.3d 1287, ____ Kan.App.2d ____ (2001) (No. 85,128, review denied (Sep 26, 2001)) held that the definition of "special needs" for child support calculations did not include expenses for extra-curricular activities, stating:

Items that qualify as special needs include ongoing treatment for health problems, orthodontist care, special education, and therapy costs.... Unlike normal extracurricular sports and activities, special needs are items that are not prevalent in the general population.

• New Child Support Guidelines were adopted by the Kansas Supreme Court, with an effective date of January 1, 2004. Support levels were generally raised and a number of changes were made. Persons paying or receiving child support should contact their attorney to determine if a child support modification is appropriate.
